Have you made a game in 2022 and want it to compete in the AGS Awards 2022? This is the topic where to showcase it!
Post a database link, a brief description and some pictures (thumbnails preferred, here is an excellent FYC post from last year).

Do not be shy, by posting your game you are helping the players who will take some of their time to play/nominate/vote!

Usual remarks:
  • Please include a link to your games page on the AGS games database
  • If you think a game deserves mention but the author isn't around, post an FYC for them! The more worthy games we get here, the better it is for everyone!

Autumn of Death: Black Friday II

For your consideration -

AGS Database link

Summary of the game:
Autumn of Death: Black Friday II is a commercial horror comedy game where you're being hunted by a killer scarecrow, and have to either escape or find a way to stop it. There are multiple endings, and you even get to play as a few different characters throughout the game.

It's a sequel to one of my previous games, Black Friday, although it plays a bit different to that game.

Getting the Picture

As there haven't been that many non-adventures made with AGS this year, I feel we have to put forward those that fit the bill.

Game summary:
It's a quiz game of sorts where the player has to guess at famous paintings, cropped images, movie posters and the likes of that. Also sporting a can't-get-out-of-your-head small ditty composed and performed by KitKat and lots and lots of "hidden" dialogue and funny commentary from the people in the pictures. I think it may be the only game this year where both Christ and Batman has lines. And don't forget that the left button is not always the right button.

Snow Problem

Currently 107 levels of physics puzzle solving (may increase in the future) please a built-in, easy-to-use level editor to create your own masterpieces.

Snow Problem is a game in which you collect snow. There are obstacles to stop this being easy of course, so you need to create extra terrain on the game screen to guide the snow to the bottom of the screen. Added some terrain in the wrong place / somewhere that was helpful but isn't any longer? No problem, you can delete it. Oh, and did I mention that there are also different obstacles that will melt your snow?

Many levels contain areas that change the colour of the snow, and you will need to collect a certain amount of each colour to complete the level. As you complete levels, more levels unlock for you to play. The full game will have 100 levels. Every level will be tested by the developer to ensure that it is definitely completable, so if you fail, you know it's your own fault! :-)

The Potion Master
A classic point'n'click adventure game by CaptainD and Kastchey
Created in three weeks for MAGS competition (theme: Healing)

Download via AGS database

Markus, a young and eager apprentice of a mysterious alchemist, has suddenly found himself in deep water when his master falls unconscious due to an unknown illness.
To save her, he needs to figure out some secrets of the trade on his own. And fast.

Please consider for:
*MAGS of the Year (it's a MAGS alright, and one of the monthly winners)
*Best Writing (I've heard the worldbuilding was semi-decent)
*Best Puzzles (a fairly balanced mix of everything + potion brewing)
*Best Character Art (sprites and portraits made in classic pixel art style)

The backgrounds and objects were pixel-painted with care, but some AI-generated reference images and textures have been used to aid the process, so you might not want to consider the game for Best Backgrounds especially if you are against any AI involvement in art. Feel free to PM me for more details if you like.

The music is not original, it was fully sourced from FreeSFX.co.uk so please do not consider for Best Music & Sound.

For your consideraiton:

Famed for its mushrooming business and idyllic countryside, the land of Fungham has seen better days. A child has gone missing, a demonic witch haunts the woods and if you're not careful, gnomes will take your socks. Also, there is a pig king... don't ask. But why have all these creatures suddenly appeared? Where did the witch come from and what does she want? Could the answer to everything lie behind the ancient gate in the nearby mountains?

The Witch's Lullaby is a classical point and click adventure, somewhat reminiscent of games like King's Quest or Legend of Kyrandia. It was made in two weeks for AdvJam 2022 and it ended up ranking #1 in the jam.

Windowed mode recommended if you have a low tolerance for blurry pixels :).

A SON OF XENON
A Retro Space Quest Fan Game Adventure!

Tired of all that irritating adrenaline that floods your body when you play a modern video game?

Feeling nostalgic for the point-and-click adventures of your childhood, with their problem-solving, reading and long quiet stretches of not knowing what to do next?

A Son of Xenon hearkens back to adventure gaming's golden age. It's a fanmade prequel to the popular Space Quest sci-fi comedy series, with the look and feel of a 320x200 pixel 16-color adventure from 1989.

Travel to strange new planets, puzzle your way through parallel worlds, all while stealing every item not nailed down and cramming them into your bottomless inventory pants.

Great Story and Dialog!
Thanks to rapid advances in chat bot technology, by next year every entry in this category will be written by an unfeeling chromium steel AI. Savor the old world charm of artisanal word choices made by an actual fellow human while you still can.

State-of-the-Art Retro Graphics!
Like all PC adventure games from 1989, this adventure boasts a palette of up to sixteen colors -- and we used every one of them to bring a fascinating spectrum of sci-fi worlds to life, from barren deserts to busy cityscapes to monster-ravaged space stations.

State-of-the-Art Retro Characters!
With all of that, you'd think there's no way this game could also have sprites. Wrong. This game has more sprites than colors even. Plus the sprites are animated, like in the popular game Elden Ring.

Music!
A Son of Xenon is a treat for the ears as well as the eyes and brain, with an entire suite of achingly beautiful original compositions designed to bring out all the right emotions when you play. When it's a sad part in the game, the music is sad as well. When it's happy, the music is also happy. How did we figure out what to play and when? With...

Programming!
Son of Xenon was created entirely using AGS, which by our scorecard makes us a shoe-in to win Best Game Created with AGS and Best Programming, assuming none of the other games being nominated thought to do that.

Free to Play!
That's right! This game won't cost you anything but your time and patience, both of which are finite and probably running out fast, so we'll wrap up this paragraph and let you get to the For Your Consideration part.

For Your Consideration
If you like adventure games, you're probably the sort of person who likes considering things. So please consider us for the following categories:

  • Best Writing
  • Best Character
  • Best Background Art
  • Best Music & Sound

For Your Consideration: Graceward - Complete Edition

Graceward showed up here last year in early access, but the commercial release is now out, and it's a title which very much continues the running theme of 90's nostalgia. Though I think you'll find Graceward harkens back even more to DOOM and BLOOD than anything by LucasArts or Sierra. Graceward is half point and click, and half shooter.

Most relevantly to the AGS awards, there is a free demo of the game on Itch, so anyone can try it out.

It's also on steam, if achievements are really important to you. Happy hunting, and godspeed.

Grandma Badass is a 2D cartoon adventure game.
This point and click video game puts you in the shoes of GrandMa, an old woman who is going to work to find her black cat Marius, who has disappeared and probably been kidnapped.

Enter a fun and lively adventure, filled with characters with their own personalities and a big part of the story that evolves over the episodes, taking GrandMa from her living room to the city and then to various distant countries...
A point and click game in the pure style of old school games, with original dialogues in the form of speech bubbles, like in comic books.

  •     Find the solution to many puzzles following a certain logic
  •     Configure the game in different screen resolutions
  •     A smart quest tracker allows you to stay on top of your objectives and easily find your way around
  •     You can combine items to create new ones
  •     You only need the mouse to control the game and GrandMa's movements
  •     The game's Prologue is available for free on the demo (about 30 minutes of play minimum)
  •     Each episode takes you on an adventure lasting between 1 hour minimum and 3 hours or more. (8-10 hours to finish the game)
  •     Very simple dialogues with a system of displaying icons in bubbles, like in a comic strip, and an audio mix of languages in a hilarious gibberish that is perfectly understandable for everyone)
  •     Save system to secure yourself at any time or quit the game at any time!

GrandMa Badass is a game that is logical enough to never lose the player and requires a minimum of observation and logic to complete each episode.

A gothic mystery set in the 19th Century, Castle Dornstein is a point-and-click adventure game that follows Hemlock, a young scholar hired to translate a mysterious medieval book known as The Devil's Diary.

Written by a monk named Gregorovitz who went mad and renounced his faith, the legendary book was lost for centuries until Lord Fiodor Dornstein discovers it.

Lord Fiodor invites Hemlock, an expert in Medieval Latin, to the Bohemian countryside to stay in the crumbling Castle Dornstein as he translates the book. When the book goes missing on Hemlock's first night at the castle, everyone becomes a suspect and Hemlock must explore a castle where secrets hide in the shadows and a dark history waits to be discovered.

Solve puzzles as you search for clues and explore the many rooms of the castle. Travel to the nearby village of Krkanov, where gossip about the castle points to an ominous past. As your investigation continues, you begin to unravel a mystery much greater and far more disturbing than a stolen book.
