Tradies make the world go around

From plumbers to electricians to builders or mechanics, without trades, our world wouldn't be what it is today. This month we're spotlighting the characters who keep things running smoothly and are often hiding in the background of a scene.

So home your inner tradie, and enter this months sprite jam by Friday 5th May. Hope to see some great entries this month!

Spooky Background Blitz

In recognition of Halloween, I'm challenging everyone this month to come up with a spooky background. Take that however you like (could be a creepy forest, voodoo hut, haunted house, cemetery) you name it - the spookier, the better.

As always, entries will be judged on the following and will close on Monday 14 November.

Concept: What is the background about? What sort of mood does it spark? What is, as it were, the big idea?
Playability: What is its opportunity for gameplay like? Walkable areas, hot-spots, and so forth?
Artistic Execution: How well does the picture convey an atmosphere? How well is it executed?

Most superhero's have an alternate identity to allow them to go through day-to-day life in secret. Think Clark Kent (superman), Peter Parker (Spider-Man) or Bruce Wayne (Batman). Their alter-ego could be something subtle to avoid added attention flying under the radar, or more an opposing character who might be overlooked as having different views or values (I.e party or millionaire lifestyle).

This months sprite jam is to design a 'Hero-in Disguise' sprite - whatever you want their alter ego to be. Come up with your superhero (summary of their character and powers), then design their everyday disguise to pass through life in anonymity.

Let's give it around 3 weeks so entries close Monday 7th November.
