My turn then? It's a classic so it'll be rather easy and not a 1 movie out of 25 with the same samurai. :P ;D

And here's a hint picture from a more famous part of this movie: http://i.imgur.com/oBuWc.jpg

Isn't that Sphere or something? I always get Abyss and Sphere confused for some reason, but the one with the being that tries to comunicate through the computer and Samuel L Jackson reads the book with no pages etc. though I know the Abyss has the water face creature in it.

How many plants would it take so a human can live only on the production of oxygen of those plants or is there a way to calculate this?
For example a space station/ship (for lets say a crew of 20-50 people) with a green room full of plants, would that be able to sustain a human or two (if say the others died and you're left in that room cause every other part of the station was decompressed or something)?

Oh, yeah, does anybody have a Kindle (the amazon digital book reader) and if so what's their opinion on it?

With what software are pixel art videos made? I mean "longer" pixel animations (as in videos not gif or similar), I know some music videos* were made this way for example, so what would a cartoon episode be made with? I know there's stuff like ToonBoom, but basically all those kinds of softwares use vector graphics.

- Do I have to be a programmer in order to make a game? I have a little knowledge over the basics of programming, but not much, so if being a programmer is required, maybe I won't be able to make a game :(
- The other question is: what software would be good for making sprites, and making backgrounds and objects? I guess there must be neat programs better than paintbrush lol :P
1. Like any tool, AGS is here to make your life easier, but you'll need to learn how to use AGS itself. Level of programming knowledge needed depends on what you want to do, but for the sake of argument let's say that to make a very basic game, you just need to read, to use common sense and for a start follow some basic tutorials (such as this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ml_DR76Cl4 - it's for an older version of AGS, but basics are mostly the same). Programming is very quick and simplified for simple things.
When you go into more complicated stuff, more programming is required. The wiki/manuals on the main page of the AGS site pretty much offer any info you might need.
I found that a lot of expirienced brilliant people contribute to the forums, so make sure to search the forums before asking stuff, especially the two top parts of the forum, you'll probably find a topic where somebody wanted to do what you want to and already found a solution to it:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?board=6.0
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?board=2.0
Search those (and other) parts of the forum when you have some trouble and if you can't find an anwser then ask where it's apropriate. Respect the rules of the forum and you'll be rewarded for it, trust me.
There's a even a "Recruit a team" thread, so you can make an offer/present your project there and someone who finds it interesting will probably join you and help out.

2. here's a recent topic about that http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=43392.0  as you can see there's quality free software as well as some you have to pay for, your choice, but rememeber, that far more of results depend on your skills than on the actual software.

...oh, and welcome to the forums.  :)

Anyone familiar with 3DS MAX my friend is having trouble importing a simple Wavefront OBJ file. I'm able to import it fine on my old 3D software (Bryce) but she can't get it into her expensive software 3dS Max. Any ideas what might be causing this problem?
Maybe a bit more specific? Is there an error message, she can't see the actual .obj file, does it seem like it's importing but nothing happens, are the textures messed up? Where did she get the obj file?

Also, I don't know this for sure, there's supposed to be a plugin for 3ds max for importing obj and it's supposed to be better than the default one, so might try looking into that as well.

What was that comedy movie named where bunch of people didn't get into good college so they started their own?
You mean college or fraternity? There's Accepted http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384793 but their own fraterntiy section has stuff like Old school http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0302886/

I'm looking at a crossroad in my life and while I want to go study abroad (mostly UK, USA etc.) and the requirement is usually some certificate that rates your knowledge of english language. Mostly it's connected to Cambridge evaluations, and as far as I could figure TOEFL and Cambridge ESOL (CAE and CPE) are the ones that are most wanted/worth. But it seems TOEFL is worth more in universities (at least in Europe) but it lasts for 2 years (why a time limit? I have no idea, probably money and greed) and CAE supposedly goes in a CV and can be used when seeking employment.

So, I'm wondering, if somebody has experience with it, how are CAE certificates generally accepted in UK/USA universities? (you can pm as well)

Well if it was movie, there would be no doubt, but since most games last longer than 90-120 minutes to playthrough, it wouldn't be very good for the monitor to have two black lines linger on after you played the game. (still "pillar boxing" looks better I think) On the other hand, as theo mentioned, windowed playing usually breaks immersion somewhat.
On some level, you might want to think about "the future" and the trend shows more people getting widescreen monitors, so I suggest going with widescreen and so people can play it in a few years as well.

[unimportant part]As tv program, it's silly when tv networks emmit 4:3 picture, when you basically can't buy a 4:3 tv for the past few years. To add to that, they make money from advertisements, so their target is people with money, people with money usually buy a new tv in some intervals...ok, ranting now, but the problem is I think that doesn't relate to pc monitors so much.
Adventure games with old style GUI actually profit from 4:3 since in the end the art is about 16:10 anyway, but GUI is minimizing all the time so the argument in modern games doesn't stand.[/unimportant part]

Yes, yes I did and yes you can.  ;D

- this part: expression in the context of tradition and religion, relations (maybe interactions, relationships, differences) between genders, suburban culture - I think "in context of" already applies that it has influence
- instead of genres, I think you meant genders
- last paragraph - taking into account

And the parts that Babar mentioned.
Not a native speaker but you're not as well, so :P

I've had it happen to the OLD black and white Gameboy over 10 years ago and the thing still works. I doubt you'll have any problem. But then again, the B&W Gameboys were the size of a large brick and probably made out of lead and other heavy stuff. :D
It's a freaking Gameboy, that's part of the history of hardware manufacturing when they still made stuff that lasted. I found a freaking tetris game cartridge on the ground one time, it was in three pieces and in mud, took it home and dad cleaned it up a bit and glued it together (15 minutes of work tops), game still works today.

@Mods
Sounds pretty bad. I haven't come across that error, though a game that's 'incompatible with Vista' should never kill a PC, especially not to this level. It does seem like a hardware error if you're getting a messed up Dell screen.

Does the computer have an onboard graphics card? If so you could take your current card out and switch to using the onboard one for testing purposes (should be automatic, but if not there'll be a setting in the BIOS to change between them). Alternatively can you get another card to put in it (though don't put in anything you care about - if the motherboard's fried you might kill the new card as well)?
Well the BSOD suggests that there is a software problem, but the problem with display surely suggests graphics card (I saw the matrix thing, then the log on screen would appear, but I couldn't move the cursor or log in, it turend out to be the card).
Yeah, try the onboard gfx port (there should be one), make sure the card is out, before that you can also check if the fan on the card is working properly, cause basically it could be an overheating problem.

If it's not the card, I suggest these standard checks while in safe mode:
- in DOS prompt (which should be run as administrator or it won't work right), write "sfc /scannow" and after that "chkdsk c: /f /r" (c is drive where windows is installed, chkdsk will probably ask for a restart), you probably know these guys  ;D
- if that doesn't work maybe try repairing Windows with the install dvd, make sure to put it right away when restarting so it boots up from the dvd
- try some of these suggestions: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-hardware-devices/689444.htm
Not sure how you actually partially reformat Vista though.  ???

Hmm, if you manage to get into normal start of windows, try leaving the pc on for 15 minutes, if it doesn't shut down or stop giving signal to monitor but for example you can still hear music then try running something graphic intensive (3dsmax, some modern game etc.) if the screen goes black but pc still seems to be working, it's the card.

There's a lot of tech savy people here, so I hope somebody will know this and help me:
so it's an mp4 video h264 - mpeg-4 avc (avc1)
resolution is 1280x528 (720 actually), 24 fps, the file has 3.4 gb
What I want to do is show this to my friends on my full hdtv panasonic tv which is connected to a panasonic bluray player bmp bd-80 by transfering the movie from pc to player via an usb stick or and SD card (both are 8gb). But the thing won't read it no matter what.

I tried Nero Visio Xtra and I made a sample movie work by making "avchd to sd" but when I try that for this bigger file, I get a 15 gb large file. I got a copy from another friend that works in this sd into bluray setup and this movie is about the same lenght and same quality but it takes up 7 gb.
The bluray really has trouble reading stuff unless it's divx or in the avchd format (with proper folder structure)

There are 99.99999% converters on the net that transform avchd into mp4, but very few go the mp4 to avchd, I tried a few, but they don't seem to work properly (avidemux, winx deluxe etc.). I'ts also hard to actually google it cause it just keeps turning out avchd to mp4/avi converters...

Help would be very much appreciated.

EDIT: there might be some restriction on the fact that SD card has fat format, so a movie of lets say 7 gb should be split into two smaller files, but I guess the softawre should offer an option for that or do it automatically...

Oh, well you should have asked. It's the Game informer...obviously turkish edition (I think it's 2 words - Oyun gezer, which basically means game informer). I only know, cause they released the first (or one of the first) images for Arkham city.

I have no idea what language this gaming magazine is in, or what's it title (can anyone enlighten me?), but it seems they have put The Journey Down and Snakes of Avalon on their latest DVD.
That's turkish (Google translation can auto detect  ;D though it doesn't translate it that well)

Oh, yeah, I remember that episode somewhat and yes it was scary...well more like creepy. I also remember the one about a girl that everybody ignored so much that she actually became invisible, I don't remember much more, even though I followed the series at the begining (later the whole Angel situation where he's bad but not etc. and the whole soapy affairs just turned me off the show).

...how would your body be constructed? For example absorption of oxygen would be impossible if compared to you it was the size of a car. And even if it wasn't, would you be strong enough to pull away one atom from another in a molecule?
You'd have a completly diffrenet way of basic building blocks and mechanics. Your body might be constructed out of something that's probably smaller than bosons. Not to mention that you'd probably be torn appart as soon as you reach that size, your building blocks would probably have too low interconnection to resist forces we consider harmless (like water tension - you can break it with your finger, but at micro (or even visible under microscope size) sizes it'd probably hold you stuck.

Perspective: if a fly is a proton then a whole atom (with electrons) is the size of a smaller cathedral. So smaller than a molecule and a bit bigger than a molecule changes things quite a bit.
You'd also probably be affected by gravitiy, polar forces in things like water molecules, magnetism, electricity, probably no friction though because you'd just have to watch out not to touch the bosons.

Then again, if you were like 5 molecules high (tall), things would be different.
