Quote from: newwaveburritos on Sun 02/04/2023 23:02:13Maniac Mansion itself does a little flubbing with the vanishing points to get away with having more "usable area" so you can definitely fudge it.  It's just a matter of fudging the right things.  As an aside, I have a decent treasure trove of EGA adventure game art I've done for myself that is scaled to about the same size as your guy there, Jason, if you want some.  Obviously, I doubt it will be a perfect match but it's there if you want any.
Yeah, I was going to mention Maniac Mansion as a counter-example: because it had scrolling rooms, or really long rooms, it was able to get away with two point perspective, and vanishing points horizontally side-by-side, so I don't think that was an issue with Ophidic's BGs. What stood out more for me was how there were misaligned horizons/vanishing points vertically as well.

I don't think the perspective on the top of the cabinets and fridge and microwave are correct, makes it look like they're tilting downwards.

Either that, or the perspective on the top of the doorframes is wrong.

Was thinking of starting a new thread for this question, but then I saw this one, and thought it might be applicable.

I learnt recently that Netflix had a bunch of (mobile) games available, so since I had an account, I figured I'd try something. The selection isn't huge, but I very much appreciate the fact that they're all totally free, and without any ads or in-app purchases (along with the aggressive monetisation and grindy gameplay that comes along with that).

They even have a couple of games that I was looking into on the PC, but after trying them out (Moonlighter and TMNT), my opinion that unless the interaction method has been drastically changed (rather than just sticking on an onscreen joystick and buttons) PC games ported to mobile are almost never convenient to play.

So far I've enjoyed Poinpy, Krispee Street, and some of the Solitaire/Domino/Mahjong games, but I was curious if anyone had any other suggestions. They have a couple of adventure games as well (I already own Oxenfree and Kentucky Route Zero on PC), but again, I'm not sure how well they'd translate to mobile if they weren't made for it.

You may wish to get rid of the double pixels that ended up with some of your diagonal lines, they sort of mess up the look.

Not really directly related to AGS, but I did a double take when I saw @AnasAbdin mentioned in a recent gamedeveloper article for a creepy Microsoft Powerpoint adventure game as part of the inspiration for the art style. It's entirely possible that he's this huge figure outside of AGS, but this place is most of my online presence, so I had no idea  := .

I actually found RDR2 too boring, and gave up on it. I found Witcher 3 a bit slow to get into as well, but at least I went through and finished it (not really motivated to complete the DLCs/expansions, though).

Not sure what sort of game you're looking for, from your description, it sounds like you want a non-fantasy/medieval RPG.

You might be interested in Horizon: Zero Dawn? It's not a typical fantasy setting (being set in the future). Or you might try Cyberpunk 2077, the setting is, as the name suggests, cyberpunk (and I hear it is playable now). Likewise for Deus Ex: Human Revolutions and Mankind Divided.

If you played it in the late 90s, I don't think it is possible it was made in AGS, or even Adventure Creator. Nothing that complex (even as a demo) was made in AGS/AC that long ago.

Yeah, having it as a settings option doesn't make much sense in terms of avoiding the surprise or jarringness: the first time people will see them will be when they pop up on those specific days, I doubt anyone will be idly browsing editor settings, or think "Hey, this editor might have different splash screens on different days, I don't want that, let me check if there is a setting for it".

I was going to suggest we ask each of the people in the screens for permission (one of them was CJ, if I am not mistaken, and most are still mostly active on the internet, if not in AGS), but then I thought to myself...why keep them at all?

I would like to keep them, mostly for nostalgia's sake, but I can totally understand all the points you listed against.

How about some activity where we create new artwork for these occasions? Could even be photographs, or multiple for each occasion, and then randomly show one related to that day when it comes around.

Wow, that's got to be a record. An almost 20 year old thread, resurrected. There are probably loads of AGSers who were not even born when this thread was last added to.

I actually removed decapitated/severed because it didn't seem relevant to the question. If the Player character was holding it up or pointing to it, the decapitatedness of it would be obvious, and the ownership of the head wouldn't have changed if it was decapitated or not decapitated- if there were several heads in question, and only one was severed/decapitated, it might be more meaningful to add, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

If I am understanding correctly, the question is asking who was the person who was made up of that head connected to a body, before the head was removed from that body. If that is correct, then your question seems to be ok. You could also make it simpler with "Who did this head belong to?" or "Whose head was this?" or "Who was this?" (while holding up or pointing to the head).

If I am not understanding correctly, and you are instead referring to someone who collected decapitated heads, and then you need to find that person, I suppose the question would still make sense, but context would play a much greater part.

Anyhow, I think your question is fine, and besides, your game is representing a person in a world asking a question, so if it is a bit of an ambiguous for us, it would be a bit of an ambiguous question for the people in the game, and you could have them react accordingly. Personally, I don't think it is that confusing, and I would usually take the first understanding I listed above.

Got it in 3, but I too had no idea of the word beyond what Snarky knew. I thought Wordle chose from X most common words in the English language, I wouldn't have thought this was a common word.

The Rumpus Room / Re: Guess the TV show

It was, and I was sad it ended up going off the rails (I think Garbage ended up being a terminator?) and then being cancelled.
Still got a few time travel shows up my sleeve, but someone else can take my turn for now.

Quote from: Snarky on Mon 19/12/2022 18:56:49Always happy to see Dillahunt pop up, he has a fun energy. In fact, let's stick with him, in a show that also has another connection to the previous:

I have almost certainly seen this specific scene, and considering your mention of a 'connection', even though it doesn't fit at all with the shot (although it does more with the second), I'm going to guess: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Figured that having him on the screen would help. You can even see the two main protagonists of the show in the background.

You're absolutely right, Snarky! Another fun time-travelly show.

Nope, but it is closer to the time this show aired (and also somewhat shares the vibe).

I had been hiding the channel name all this time.
