Only game I can think of atm is Rogue, but doesn't really feel like it fits the clues.  My suspicion is that the last rhyming couplet in your clue holds the key to solving this, but it's just not ringing any bells.

Hmm.  Looks like some shareware Lemmings'inspired game but... no idea what it's called.
