I can't believe I guessed Joe V. The Volcano for a film that was actually Elephant Man.

I'm not sure. I just remembered it had a very bleak and stylized sequence at the factory at the beginning of the film. This sequence, in fact, if I'd bothered to check before guessing.

My guess is Joe Versus The Volcano.

My thought process, in case this helps anyone:

1. This looks like an early silent film, but I don't think it is. We have few panoramic options to choose from, even fewer that still exist in a wide format, and I don't think this is from either Old Ironsides or Abel Gance's Napoleon.
2. So this might be from a film designed to look like a silent film, but filmed post-whenever the wider aspect ratios came along (early 50s, I think). Or, it might be a flashback.
3. Or, this might be a Karel Zeman film. It has that look to it too, but I can't find one that matches up with the subject matter.

No matter the case, I want to see whatever this is. That looks a bit like Stephen Lang in the center.

Nope. Like I said, if it's not fun, I just won't play. By the way, the name of the thread is "Guess the movie title," not "Aggressively assert the movie title." Maybe you should start your own thread?

Yeah, I stopped visiting this thread when certain folks started imposing rules -- about how to answer, about what movies were eligible to be used, about the timeframe for posting a new screen before they felt obliged to skip your turn, etc.

I figured that would be a quick one, and I was right. It is indeed the beautiful The Illusionist.

It is both obvious and unobvious to me. I recognize most of the people in the still from something, but can't put my finger on what.

I kind of wish we'd gone through with full Facebook integration so I could 'Like' that comment, Stupot. As it is, I can only like it.

I say check in with the mods then, point to the precedent of the previous voice acting competition, and get this thing restarted -- it was your idea, after all!

Bingo Long and His Travelling All-Stars?

I only recently discovered the Hall of Fame thread and noticed there used to be a voice acting comp up until 2006.

I've been trying to think of a tactful way to suggest bringing it back (apparently I completely ignore stickied threads like this one and the HoF thread). I'd like to give voiceover work a try, have a mic and a copy of Audition, and a range of voices I'm capable of performing. However, I don't want to volunteer for game work because I'm completely inexperienced and I could be a total wash-up.

A voice acting comp would give me, and perhaps others, a nice way of trying out.

Heaven Help Us ?

One quick turn deserves another. It is, indeed, the classic coming-of-age film Heaven Help Us.

Sorry to get it so quickly! I don't know why, but two movies popped into my head based on your description, this one and Southland Tales. I almost guessed the latter, before I noticed they were wearing period costume.

Here's a new easy one:
