Split Second. How could you forget Rutger Hauer lighting his cigar with a blow-torch?

Totally in love with this album for most of 2020:

Also, speaking of Talking Heads, one of my favourite (non-album) tracks recently went live on Spotify after being unavailable for donkey's years (in my neck of the woods anyway):

From long-forgotten Irish indie band National Prayer Breakfast:

And while it was covered by both Michael Jackson and Eric Clapton (among others), this is still the best version of this song:

The Man from U.N.C.L.E!

So that means it must be Alicia Vikander...

Quite a face-altering freeze-frame.

Is that Carla Gugino? :-\

A fine choice, Ponch, but could I suggest we make one of ProgZmax's games PotM as a small gesture? Perhaps Limey Lizard (full disclosure: I'm in it!)?

I would have thought 'Pick of the Month' should be about picking a game made that month, not from previous months, years ago...

I've always felt that it's about highlighting a game from the database, once a month, that (people feel) deserves more attention.

Ah, The Ruins. I remember it now, the old dude shooting the young dude, the leg bit, etc. Quite a good movie. Never read the book myself, but I would've guessed the movie to also be more recent than 2008 (at least sometime in the '10s).

Well played. :)

Calm down, peeps.

It's not the gore, it's that this is probably some demoralising bullshit like Hostel.

If we're only going to post uplifting, life-affirming movies we may as well do away with this thread altogether. Plus, I don't think it's Hostel, or one of it's sequels. Seems a little too...outdoors-y.

It could be an Eli Roth (or perhaps a Rob Zombie) flick, though.

Hmm...

Let Me In?

Weird. That popped into my head too, when I first saw that image. And while there is a playground in Let Me In (and the original Let the Right One In), I don't think it matches up. Plus the aspect ratio doesn't match (I think this may be an older movie), and I don't think the white in the image is snow.

...

But I could be waffling nonsense. So I'm going to guess...

"Black Rainbow"?  Mystery photographer is Tom Hulce?

Bingo! Black Rainbow it is, and that indeed is Tom Hulce, as seen here:

A very good, if largely forgotten film (it never even made it cinemas in the US), that recently had a very nice blu-ray release.

A couple of years later than that, but kind of on the same wavelength...maybe-ish?

No, but I would watch the heck out of that movie!

Sleepwalkers?

Nay, though I can see why you might think that. And this movie is from roughly the same period, give or take a couple of years.

Maybe you’re picking up on the earlier Ireland talk and have gone with The Dubliners?

I don't think there is a film called The Dubliners, but there is a film called The Dead, which is from Joyce's Dubliners. And, since they show it on TV every Christmas over here, I've seen it more times than I care to count. Of the top of my head, I don't recall that image featuring, but I could be wrong.

Michael Collins?
