Thanks Anian. I definitely can't just use a "regular animated texture" (I need the reflections of other objects in the scene to follow the wave geometry), but the videos you link, and other YouTube examples of Blender with and without Ocean Modifier, look promising.

Not having watched the full tutorial yet, I take it there's a relatively straightforward way to create a looping animation using this technique? Googling the question didn't bring up any definite "Yes, here's how you do it and it works fine" answers.

I think I read the largest chip is where all the data is stored, but wasn't able to verify that.

Well, that bit is certainly not true. Hard disks store the data on magnetic platters (disks), not in chips.

You can see the sort of waves I'm looking for here. There will be various objects casting light, which is why I want reflections. The cartoony part is less essential, and I can experiment with shaders and filters to get the effect I need.

I'm looking for a tool to create a high-quality, cartoony looping wave animation with 3D reflections. The ones I've found are only able to do ripples; I want proper, choppy ocean waves. I'm assuming I'll need some kind of 3D app, but some guidance (w/ examples, if possible) would be appreciated.

I don't know, Aqala. A movie that is like The Machinist plot-wise, but not in tone? So it's something like the story of a guy with chronic insomnia who becomes sickeningly emaciated and starts having hallucinations and making dangerous mistakes at his job, but... upbeat? As a comedy?

All right, just to have another guess: Vanilla Sky?

Or wait, maybe The Number 23? I think I heard that has a slightly similar paranoia plot.

Allmovie.com says that The Jacket is similar to The Machinist* (I don't see it, myself), and I guess that could be Adrian Brody, so... ?

* It also lists the movie's themes as: Haunted By the Past, Mind Games, Prostitutes. Umm, fair enough, I guess.

The Machinist?

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with the sentence grammatically speaking. Any objections are stylistic. Some people might think this construction is overused or just sounds silly, or they might associate it with people they look down on (e.g. teenagers, journalists). But it's not nearly as faddish as the sarcastic "Not!" (e.g. "You look great. Not!") that was popular a few years ago.

As Eric sort of hints, Oliwerko's version actually means something quite different. "... Or was it?" implies that the speaker knows but isn't telling (for now); "wasn't it?" indicates that the speaker doesn't know for sure.

Yes they did. It works strangely well.

Ilyich got it. Each Whit Stillman movie is a treasure; if you have a chance to see Damsels in Distress you should definitely go for it.

OK, this should be fairly easy, but who knows?

OK, since evidently no one has seen the movie in question, I've googled my way to an answer: 3-Iron.

This one might not be immediately obvious, but in that case I'll add some more identifiable screens:

One of his inventory items is the title of the movie (at least the english title), I'll tell you that much. :)

You know, I thought it was Le Ballon Rouge, but I just watched it and it doesn't seem to match the screencap (wrong aspect ratio, for starters; also, no skyscrapers). So I guess I don't know it after all.

Oh yeah. (Notice the home-made spike strip Linda Fiorentino has tucked into her apron and is about to place under the hapless stakeout guy's tyre.)

I can't believe J.T. Walsh died back in 1998! I feel like I've seen him in so many great roles... in not-always-great movies (though this one is!)
