More exactly La cité des enfants perdus , the original not the remake

Huh? There was never a remake of City of Lost Children; there's an English dub and a video game spinoff, but the English and French titles refer to the same film.

Yeah, didn't really think anyone would get it off that one. How about this?

No.

Man, I really took a bunch of cool screencaps before, but now I'm stuck with... a lot of not very exciting shots (unless I want to give it away completely).

I watched this film a while back and even screencapped it for use in this thread, but I guess I never got around to posting it. (And then deleted the screencaps, like an idiot, so now I have to get them off YouTube clips.)

In retrospect this image should have given it away, once you look closely at the architecture:

But the earlier shots threw me off, and I haven't actually seen the movie. (I used to listen to Bug Powder Dust a lot, though.)

I went to see Florence + The Machine in concert the other day, and have been listening a lot to "Rabbit Heart" (which they didn't play, I'm just a sucker for the mythic imagery) and "South London Forever" in the days since. Bootleg video from the same tour:

What makes the main character likeable? Sounds gross.
For example, Dexter is killing bad people (at least to start with).

Like Dexter (who I'm not sure was ever really "likeable") he has a kind of "moral code", and acts like a really nice person maybe 80-90% of the time. And when he does something bad, he always has some self-justification about how he's really just trying to protect someone or make them happy. But I think it's most of all about getting us as viewers invested in the sheer challenge of the thing: he's constantly put in these jams he has to get out of somehow, and you end up rooting for him on some level just because it's fun to see how he overcomes difficult obstacles. (Also a lot of the appeal of Breaking Bad, I think.)

Oh, plus another trick: fill out the role gallery with truly unlikeable supporting characters, so that he looks better by comparison and you don't mind so much when bad things happen to them.

No, that's not it.

Well, OK, it is. (How specific!) It wasn't meant to be very hard; that's the female lead in full view too.
The show is basically Dexter except instead of a 30-something forensic tech in Miami he's a 20-something bookstore clerk in New York, and a stalker.

Yeah, sorry, not familiar, Frighter.

Here's a hopefully easy one: One of the bigger "watercooler" shows of this winter:

That is... correct. Thanks, Kumpel!  ;-D
How did you get there? I thought the screen where a shirtless Terry Notaro menaces Dominic West would be the one to give it away, since it was featured in most of the publicity and is... memorable.

It is indeed The Square by Ruben Östlund (his previous film was Force Majeure aka Turist, a cringe comedy about a dad who abandons his family to flee an avalanche, and how they get along after it turns out to be harmless). The Square is harder to sum up, but it deals with art, empathy, privilege, violence and hypocrisy through a series of darkly hilarious episodes in the life of a harried museum director.

An outstanding film where every scene is simultaneously a joy and painful to watch. I highly recommend it.
