Yeah, I’ve never understood the strobe light on a bicycle. How obnoxious do you have to be?

Happy birthday Snarky. Have a great day.

Wait… that sounds familiar.

*scrolls up page*

Oh, damn. We’ve dried this thread up so much that it now covers two of Snarky’s birthdays on one page.

Squid Game is definitely not for kids I’ve only seen ep1, but yeah just on sheer body count and amount of  blood I would not encourage parents to let their kids watch it. Certainly not primary-aged kids, anyway. Secondary age may be a different matter. Like Dan, I was allowed to watch some pretty bad horror from a fairly young age and I actually thank my mum for that. She played it perfectly. There were still rules but my sister and friends lived near a video shop that didn’t care about the age ratings so we were allowed to discover our own limits and didn’t become Disney kids. Thank you, Mum.

As for the violent playground games, that’s nothing new. As long as no one is killed then it’s just a regular playground game, albeit with a new theme. If it does get particularly bad, schools will ban them just as  they banned British Bulldog when I was a kid.

I've stumbled on this woman Hazel O'Connor who apparently was quite famous in the 80's but I can't say I'd ever heard of her before.

She's got a massive catalogue but I'm currently enjoying her debut album from 1980, Breaking Glass.

@Honza - I’ve been thinking of watching this. From the trailer, it seemed a bit like DARK, which is the best thing to come out of Netflix so far. Based on your review, I will lower my expectations. But if I watch it, I’ll share my thoughts.

By the way, everyone watch Dark.

What’s been grinding my gears lately.

There’s long been a sub-genre of tweets, memes, videos, gifs, etc. all about how annoying it is for creative people to be asked to do free work in return for ‘exposure’.

Now, I can understand how this is annoying and appreciate that creative people want it to be known that they have bills to pay and can’t work for free (although I don’t really like the attitude of these memes. What’s wrong with politely informing people that you do not work for free?).

The thing that is grinding my gears at the moment is an evolution of the above. Creative professionals are now stuck so far up their own asses that they won’t even field genuine requests from people who *are* willing to pay.

The video in the link below show’s some douche bag recreating a scene where someone first compliments their art and then asks them for their rate for commissions. The artist first refuses to give him the rate (?), and then when the interested party is predictably shocked by the rate, makes the other person out to be a right asshole.

https://twitter.com/papagaeio/status/1393371202115162113?s=21

Again, what’s wrong with just politely telling people ‘this is my rate, it might be a little higher than you expected because of a, b and c...’ That person will now learn what sort of price they might be looking at were they to then ask another artist a similar question.

Videos like this are just nasty and elitist. Not made to inform potential punters like me who might want to approach an artist for my board game project, for example. They’re just made to get likes and pats on the back from other artists.

Get over yourselves.

Everyone already knows that wrestling is fake, so pointing it out is meaningless.

But, I do appreciate where those people are coming from. The fact that wrestling is fake means that it is literally just a soap opera. What grinds my gears is why is a soap opera covered on a sports channel? And why do people pay money to fill up arenas or stay up til the early hours of the morning to watch a bunch of oiled up actors prancing around pretending to hit each other.

Don’t get me wrong, I used to be into wrestling when I was a kid. I also used to watch Eastenders, but I guess I grew out of both.

Nose hair.
No, I think it’s more that you just haven’t got used to it. Nose hair is actually there to help protect you.

Something that grinds my gears is when you come up with a [...] thought [...], making sure to point out all of the evidence and reasoning for how you came to this conclusion.
Only to have someone say "No, you're wrong." and that's it. No rebuttals, no other comments. Just that. All because [people are assholes].

If my guess had ben wrong my next guess was going to be:

Under the dumpster.

I agree with you that it’s silly to wear a mask when there’s literally no one else about. I wait until I’m near the station before putting mine on.

But regarding breathing through your nose around people. That’s not gonna solve anything. You can’t cough through your nose and your nose can’t block a sneeze. You r nose is literally there to let sneezes out. Those 5-8 families a day would ask you to wear a mask around people.

Yeah, these people are absolute morons. And there’s a lot of them.

Not to mention that even mask-wearers have to take their masks off from time-to time. And even with them on, no one ever claimed they were 100% fool-proof.
