Brookside?

I thought Starbucks had already been guessed but I just realised CaptainD actually said StarDucks. And seeing Kweepa's rationale it can't possibly be anything else.

Bakers?

They grind the wheat to make flour and I'm sure some boiling gets done at some point in proceedings, even if just to make their tea :-)
Others who toil? Hmm maybe the front of shop staff who sell the bread.
They work in the early hours of the morning.

Never heard of or seen this but it sounds fun.
When I was a kid I used to love The Miraculous Mellops. Weird stuff. I believe that was Aussie.

There's an interesting quirk I've noticed on the “games you have and haven't rated” page.

If you go to that page but aren't logged in, a bunch of games come up as “games you have rated”

Here is the list in question (in case it helps work out the cause):

Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy!
Primordia
King's Quest II+ VGA
A Tale of Two Kingdoms
Chance Of The Dead
The Perfidious Petrol Station
Pester Quest
Starship Quasar
Class Notes

(Edit) sorry, didn't see the page change. That was for the previous picture.

Orange Is The New Hat?

A blacksmith who betrayed some arthritic young ladies.

Ahh cool. I had a few back-up ideas ready, but 'splinter' seemed to fit.
I might try and think one up but anyone feel free to jump in with something.

For me, once Mandle said to focus on the middle sentence, something about the phrase 'just joking and smiling' seemed a bit off and I knew the words must have been chosen for a reason other than their meaning as a sentence. That's what led me to find the solution.

Ok, I need to know whether the puzzle can be solved with the information at hand or if it requires outside knowledge, i.e. whether the names are pop cultural references or something
Nah, it really can be done from just the middle line of the riddle, as Mandle said.

Ooooh. I get it. I'd never have got that. I was picturing literal men in a room and I don't think my brain was ever going to make the mental leap.

Regarding Mandle's puzzle the best I can come up with is that 'midnight' means 'straight ahead' (like in the movies when they use clock times to describe the position of a foe). So Mike never hid and was right in front of Jane the whole time. So the answer is: no time at all.

Regarding Kweepa's riddle: is it a firing squad or execution where all 19 men are blindfolded so none of them know which of them actually executed the 20th guy. Not sure where the lamp comes into it though.
