This has probably been mentioned before but if you click on a forum post from outside the actual boards (say, from the 'recent posts' box on the main website), and then go back to the main forum index, the thread you have just looked at stills shows up as 'new'. Presumably a post only shows as read if you have clicked on it from within the forums themselves. Not that it's a problem, but something I've noticed a lot and thought I'd mention :-D

I'm currently gradually working my way through Flight of the Amazon Queen with my niece (I'm turning her into a young adventurer) and I can confirm that you do find an oil can on the back of Sparkey's truck and empty the contents onto the car of the henchmen.  There's also a 'rubbing' puzzle in this game, where you rub the pencil on a blank page to see what was written on the page above it.  That's such a common puzzle that I even told my niece to expect it as soon as we got the pencil, and taught her how it works using a real notepad and pencil :)

Damn, that one seems to have passed me by. It looks awesome. I hope it's still being worked on.

So, I've got the RAM out of my Advent, and it's actually 2GB, not 1GB.  Trouble is my Compaq allows a maximum of 2GB and already has 1GB.  So, is it better to replace the current 1GB stick with the Advent's 2GB stick, or to just by a new 1GB one to add to the current one?

I still haven't tried it yet. The screwdrivers are in the cupboard under the stairs which has a sofa in from of it, and I'm too lazy to move it. Haha. I will probably try it tomorrow :-)

@Weston - If you want to post your artwork to be critiqued, you'll be wanting The Critic's Lounge :-)

Okay. Thanks guys. I'll give it a go later today :-)

Last year my Advent laptop died suddenly. I have since been using (or seem to have inherited) my dad's HP Compaq laptop.

The Compaq badly suffers from really bad slowdowns and freezing. In all the palaver of trying to get Broken Sword 5 to work on this machine the conclusion seems to be a lack of RAM.  So I decided to buy some new RAM and see if that does the trick (even if BS5 still doesn't work, I should see some improved performance).

But before I fork out the money I haven't got, it suddenly occurred to me that I might be able to use the stick of 1GB RAM from my old Advent laptop.  From what I can tell, they are very similar RAM modules.  The question is: are they similar enough?

Code: text

Brand:          Advent                        Compaq
Form Factor:	DIMM 200-pin                  DIMM 200-pin
MPN:	        555283-AD-1024                702914-HP-1024
Model:	        8117                          Presario Notebook C765EM
Type:	        DDR2 SDRAM                    DDR2 SDRAM
Bus Speed:	PC2-4200 (DDR2-533)           PC2-5300 (DDR2-667)

So, based on these numbers, do you think it is possible to try sticking the Advent's RAM into the spare slot on my Compaq, or is this simply not possible? If not, what would be likely to happen? Would it just not work or could it damage my machine? Is it worth trying or should I be shot for even considering it?

I just thought I'd run this past you clever people before I go doing something potentially stupid.

Quick info- Left4Dead 2 is now free on Steam- if you install it until tomorrow 10 pm, it's yours forever, for 0 moneys.
How do we get this?  Is there a special thing to do? It's coming up as 50% off at £7.49, but no mention of getting it free.

Oh I just found the info.  It expired at 10am yesterday, not 10pm today :(

the quarters are all heads hence them being head quarters.

Why are the quarters all heads?
I'll tell you no tales

But yeah, no, I wouldn't have got that without some very unsubtle hints.

Probably a stupid question, but I'm assuming a penny = 1 cent, yeah?

Maybe if the four quarters and a penny add up to $1.01, the address of the crime will be on 101st Street. Errrm. Can't be more specific than that i'm afraid.

Yeah, true, it's not as though you haven't talked about aspects of your game design processes before.  I say just keep doing what you've been doing but with the occasional listeners' questions (and guests). Coz, judging by the response for that episode we definitely want more game-making talk :)
#737
The insights into your game making methods are really interesting.  Well I'm interested in anyone's methods.
But if anything 'what's your game making process?' is a really broad question.  If you broke it down and had a different focus each week, such as Vince's ideas, that's hours of discussion fodder  right there.

@Vince, if you're interested in more people's processes, have you checked out this recent thread? http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=49582.0
