City of Lost Children?

Hellboy II?

You recognized Ron Perlman in there? ;) But you're correct:
it's 'La cité des enfants perdus'.

I've cheated and used Google so I know what movie it is but well it's cheating so it doesn't count I guess. :P
So at the time I let you walk in circles some more, I can tell for sure I have never heard of the movie. :P

@ bici
I took the liberty to convert your machine to a diagram.
This is a machine but also a it executes a program. The program is defined by what (finite number of) states there are and what action each transition does. The machine itself is turing complete, the program is not. A program can only be turing complete if it's in fact simulating a turing machine. See where I'm going with this? :D

A machine is turing complete (hence a computer) if any program that can be executed on it can also be executed by a turing machine. This also works the other way around: any program that runs on a turing machine can be executed by any computer. We tend to call programming languages turing complete when it can be used to express any program that runs on a computer. The good old SQL can not do this, it lacks the possibility to control program flow and strictly speaking also arbitrary memory access. When it could jump to a different line in the SQL file when a certain query equals some result, then one could argue it is turing complete.

Actually any computer boils down to this:
  • arbitrary memory access
  • conditional branching

And when a language can express this, same story.
I hope that was helpful. :D

Can anyone tell me, in terms of computers, what precisely is an executive?
I know it's basically a kind of user interface, but what's the difference between an executive and a shell, for instance?

As far as I can tell it a bit of a archaic term for a shell. There exist a shell that is called 'Executive', that might coincide with it. I don't know if there is a clear difference between the words, the only thing I could think of is that one might be a rudimentary interface that just fire up programs, while the other also allows basic scripting; but that's just speculation.

Yes, AGS is equiped with it actually:
Code: ags
player.Say("...");
will result in a pause.

If a sentence of speech begins with an ellipsis, is it correct to capitalise its first letter?
"...maybe not." or "...Maybe not."?

The ellipsis indicated that something has been left out, if you start a sentence with "..." you are telling you've left out the beginning of the sentence. Since this would also have contained the cap you should continue lowercase after the ellipsis.
However, as Mister Ouxx pointed out, sometimes it is used in comic books to indicate a pause, in that case the beginning of the sentence isn't left out so it should start with a cap. Though you could wonder if you should use the ellipsis at all in that case. :P

Different aspect ratios and resolutions is definitely a pain for developers., but I don't see that changing in the future. Well it will get worse since the net books and smart phones tent to have really irregular resolutions. It is particularly difficult for sprite art, since it does not stretch nicely and only scales nicely at regular intervals.
What we could do is detach the viewport from the background, that way we can sort of scroll the background and we do not need to stretch it (but do need to scale it 2x or 3x). AGS currently supports a few predefined resolutions, it would be nice if we could change it to an arbitrary resolution at even nicer if we could do it at run time. That way we could adjust everything in-game to this new resolution. Well, just thoughts... ;D

- I'm frustrated by the total stagnation of the AGSH project, and the fact that it will become completely useless the day the community will start refactoring the Engine if ti becomes open-source (the clock is ticking!)

That is actually true, also I was planning on creating a STL implementation for AGS which would also be useless however:
The code will be useless, the ideas will not be, it would just mean you'll get to try them out directly on the engine! Wheeeee!  :D

I don't know if that makes you more, or less excited, it makes me very excited though.

Well I'm by no means an expert on physics but I'm going to spew out a theory:
The cloth might get wet because of the moist that is either on the ice or the tires. The water in the cloths is sympathetic to the ice because of hydrogen bonds so it sticks; Or maybe it just freezes onto the ice. However the cloth provides better traction.

Or something... ;D

I did a quick search and found several programs, including AutoHotkey which seems to do the trick, and is free. Just look for hotstring in the help file and you should be able to set it up :)

I'd say it's a harmonica, a bit distorted though.

Ouch! That really sucks. Since vista was installed on that partition it looks like it created a blank partition on top of the existing one and did happily overwrite chunks of the existing data. You can have some luck with disk recovery tools, but there are no guarantees. For the best results, don't touch it! Boot from a different partition or use a live CD. Every time you start from the new partition it will corrupt your old data even further. Good luck! :(

Hi,

There have been three successful hoursong competitions so far in the General Discussion forum, but the turn ups are not as good as they could be I guess. We think it might help if we post them in C&A. Is that OK?
