Have you ever wasted your time trying to solve some cryptic puzzle in a game, and then it turns out it can't be solved? I thought it would be nice with a thread where we can name the games that are unfinishable, either because they are buggy, or that they are designed like that. Some joke games may take their humour from making the game unwinnable, but wasting the players' time by being vague about it is just unnecessary, in my view.

Ever since being caught in a never-ending loop in The Fabulous Wanda on the Commodore 64, I've felt this isn't really funny for the player, but rather a disappointment. Now, there may well be some play value in a buggy game, but it would be nice to know when to stop trying. Likewise with demos without a scripted ending. So let's help each other out, shall we?

Pixely Pete (MAGS 2001-07) seems to lack an ending.

I'm only Sleeping is a Reality-on-the Norm game not in the database. Get it here or here. Davy's little brother wakes up in the middle of the night and needs to go back to sleep. Not easy when Death is sitting in the sofa, watching Gilligan's Island. Fun stuff!

Murder actually has a very long title. It's probably an hour game, three screens long. It's at https://archive.org/details/murder-game

The Elegant Murder Mystery is a pretty good short detective game, as the title suggests. It's at https://archive.org/details/the-elegant-murder-mystery

An even better mystery game is Anticipating Murder, which is both at http://americangirlscouts.org/agsuploads/Lisa/AnticipatingMurder.zip and https://archive.org/details/anticipating-murder ,but strangely enough not in the main database.

(Can anyone tell I used "Murder" to search for Murder in a wheel and then just couldn't stop there?)  :-[

And most of the entries from the first MAGS ever:
Highly Hip Hendrix is at https://archive.org/details/highly-hip-hendrix
Tiny Green Piece of Crap is at https://archive.org/details/tiny-green-piece-of-crap
Philip Illinilings and the Murder at Fish Hotel is at https://archive.org/details/philip-illinilings-and-the-murder-at-fish-hotel
They even had a Ceremony at the end, which is at https://archive.org/details/mags-2001-06-ceremony
(Some of these old games won't run on modern computers without some fiddling. I have an old PC lying around for such occasions. ;) )

Yes, I tried to convince my son that we were on the same team against the sharks, but he was quick to point it out when he got a higher score than me!  (laugh)

Thanks for the comment and for playing, mate! Really I designed this mainly as a game to play with my own daughters (my 7 year-old was my main play-tester and advisor  :-D) so I'm glad your child(ren) enjoyed it too (I'm assuming from your comment that they did, hopefully I'm right!  ;-D)

Oh yes! But we've had to quit out of the program and restart some times to avoid the one player getting too much of a headstart when starting with a bigger shoal than the other. Especially when more than two take turns. But it's fast, so no problem. One of my daughters asked for a high score table (yeah, that's the one with an insane score in single player...). I told her it would only read DAD on the top spots anyway. As if.  (laugh)

This game is decent fun in single player, but really, it's the two-player action that's the real deal here! I can heartily recommend snapping that fish right under the nose of your daughter's or son's fish!  :-D

I am not 100%, but the walking and some details look very agsy.

The game is not available yet - and the rest is too french for me to understand  :P
According to this: https://www.rom-game.fr/news/4772-Gobliiins+5.html there is currently a fundraiser to raise 3000 Euros to complete the game. It's indeed made in AGS.

When someone asks for help in the Hints and Tips thread, but puts the entire question in Spoiler tags. Then you have no idea if this is the same place you are stuck yourself, and must risk either asking something someone else asked before, or unintentionally reading about something occurring later on in the game if you reveal the spoiler. And you don't know if you can help, either, unless you have completed the whole game.

2) The only way to share a screenshot is through "upload from computer" function. So you can't use Imgur.
Well, my imgur pics for Prep Time are showing. I pasted the link into the input box, and it seemed to work, at least. Unless AGA has helped me out invisibly...

Your game is showing now, so it could be just a server hiccup. Downloading!  ;)

I got a lock-up like that when I tried to upload my game with screenshots on my local drive. It worked fine when I put the images on imgur instead.

EDIT: You could perhaps also try to upload without the screenshots and try to add them later? (Then you will find out if that was the problem.)

Yeah, I see what you mean there, I also played other people's games to learn. I've played 12 so far and there are very different approaches.
Playing other people's games is a great way to learn!  (nod) And if you thought out a great solution to a problem that turned out not to be the correct approach, then you already have an idea for something you can use yourself.  ;)

My "weaker" skills (still learning) : Coding - Puzzle creation (I could need some inspiration for that when the time comes)

My general advice concerning puzzle creation would be to keep it in mind when you are creating your story. Ask yourself what problems would be natural for your protagonist to meet in your story and try to integrate the puzzles instead of putting them in at a later stage. Also, try to present the problem before the solution...it's okay to look for a key to a door, but may break immersion if you have the key and know that you now need to find a locked door.  ;)
