General Discussion / Re: Free Steam keys!

I just noticed I have extra copies of some games on Steam...If anyone wants free copies of Half Life 2 and Half Life 2 Episode 1 let me know.  Just give me your Steam handle.  I also have Duke Nukem Forever.  I only have one of each, so first come first serve.

Perhaps threads like these are what's helping cause the massive slowdown of the forums...

Actually, that was Ponch's trophy collection sig.   ;D

On topic randomness...The coolest thing ever explained to me when I was young was the idea that whenever you look up into Space, you are actually looking back into time due to how long it takes light to travel to Earth.

You can't write for a video game as you would write for a short story; it doesn't translate well.

You must think there is some translation.  In the "Offer Your Services" thread you mentioned winning a short story contest as your experience for writing a video game.

I do like the overall idea of a "game design outline" contest, though I don't know if that has been tried on here before.

Huh?  :)

That was a tip of the day, and not a comment on your cup, which looks great.  Agreed on removing the contents for added intrigue.

"Always do a test import of one sprite just to make sure it looks ok in AGS before creating an entire sheet of animation."

Hello everyone, my name is James.  I'm originally from Virginia, though my company moved me to Asia back in 2004 and nowadays I live in Hong Kong.  When I'm not traveling I like to go boating, work out enough to stay in shape, and of course tool around on my PC.

I'm just here to read the forums and slowly learn how to use AGS and create sprite animation.  Naturally I have a a game idea (semi-educational involving funny moments throughout history), but I'm waiting to start on it until I wrap my head around the basics of the AGS engine.  I've got some experience with programming and no shortage of creative ideas, but I'm a terrible artist/animator.

I did a bit of research into game engines, and AGS seems to be the most flexible with an established reputation/following.  I look forward to browsing around on here, occasionally posting some knucklehead "new guy" questions, and learning more.
