Haha, that's crazy, very cool animation!
Well, it could be interpreted as a way to spend a vacation... not the most comfortable one, though ;)

I've added another week to the deadline, so you and the others have more time to work on backgrounds! :cheesy:  The new deadline is May 3rd.

Quote from: newwaveburritos on Sat 22/04/2023 06:47:07I have been working on some real dumb stuff that I can't even shoehorn into this blitz
Ha, that sounds fun, I would be curious to see it :D

Less than a week left!

How are your backgrounds coming up?
If you need more time, let me know and I'll change the deadline!

That's great, can't wait to see your interpretations of the theme! Have fun drawing, everybody! :cheesy:

I'm bumping this thread to remind people that the Background Blitz is open and eagerly awaiting your entries!  ;)

Is anyone working on an entry? Or even two?! Come on, I want to see your ideas for vacation spots!

VACATION

Norman Rockwell - Family Home from Vacation

What do you like to do during your vacations? Maybe you like going to the sea, enjoying the sun and bathing. Or maybe hiking on a mountain. Or going on a bike through the countryside. Explore the ocean on a raft. Or perhaps, you just like to stay home and relax!

So, for this competition, you should draw a place you would like to visit on vacation. It could be a tropical island, a cosy restaurant, a temple on top of a mountain, whatever you want! It doesn't have to be adventurous. Just show your idea of an ideal place for a vacation.

Deadline: 26th of April 2023 10th of May 2023. Of course, with Easter in the middle and everything, if you need more time just let me know. ;)

Voting:

Concept: your background should tell us something about the place you have depicted.
Playability: does it have clearly defined walkable areas, things to interact with, etc?
Artistic Execution: does the image convey the wanted atmosphere? What's the feeling of the place?

Good luck and have fun! Can't wait to see your ideal vacation spots! :cheesy:

Thanks everybody for the votes! It was a lot of fun taking part in a background blitz again and it gave me a good excuse to draw something different.  :cheesy:
I also like how different each interpretation of the theme was, great work everybody!

I'll try to make a new competition as soon as possible... when I get a decent idea for a theme. I'm open to suggestions! ;)

newwaveburritos: thank you very much! Your entry was lovely!

These look like an interesting series of articles! It's always nice to see people highlighting free games, which can often get overlooked. :)

I'll have to use Google Translator as I don't speak German, but I intend to read the articles -- I just skimmed the one linked (plus I looked at the pictures :D ).

My votes:

Concept: Hannah_Banana -- it evokes the idea of the ritual without the gruesome details (well, except on the carved image on the pyramid ;) ). The toy on the right was a nice touch.

Playability: Creamy -- plenty of different objects to interact with and read their descriptions. The tyrannosaurus with the knife is just funny!

Artistic Execution: newwaveburritos -- this scene is perfect for a cutscene and it's a cool interpretation of the theme. I like the different expressions each person has in the image.

Quote from: Hannah_Banana on Mon 27/03/2023 09:46:52Great entry Lorenzo! So much detail, and you're right, what more fitting than a church. Hope to see you enter more often with backgrounds like this!  😊
Thank you very much, Hannah! The real church I used as reference had even more detail, but I wanted to be able to finish before the deadline.  (laugh)

Quote from: cat on Mon 27/03/2023 10:16:39Wonderful entry, @lorenzo ! Maybe the scene just starts with a pan from the tower down?
Thank you! :cheesy: That's a really good idea, why didn't I think of that?!

I haven't done a Background Blitz in a long time, so it was fun doing a new one! I started very late, so I couldn't polish the background how I would've liked, but here it is:

Since the topic is about a ritual that can be religious, what's better than a church? :D
The aspect ratio is a bit strange because I wanted to include the bell tower, so I'll say that it's a game that is played on phones.  ;)

Thank you very much for the comment, Ramorama! ...although now I want chocolate chip cookies too  (laugh)

As expected. Barbie™ never fails.

Quote from: Mouth for war on Sat 04/03/2023 20:11:10Now, everything else just feels like crap. [...] Are there any games you can suggest?
May I suggest Barbie Explorer?

It's Barbie™, so you know it's good. It's a quality brand that never disappoints.

It's third-person because otherwise you wouldn't be able to see Barbie™'s wonderful taste for clothing and smashing figure.

It's not fantasy/medieval because it's Barbie™ and she doesn't need to be either fantasy nor medieval. She is wonderful as she is.

Pros of the game:
- You get to explore with Barbie™
- You get to enjoy Barbie™'s company and witty banter
- It's like Indiana Jones but with Barbie™, so it's automatically better.

Cons:
- It's not available on digital distribution, but I have found a cheap copy on eBay for only 1800 USD, which is a steal for Barbie™.

This post was not sponsored by Barbie™ (but it should).

Hey, Knoodn! We intend on making an itch page for the game as soon as we can  :)  We'll put the demo there too.

In case you've missed it, here's a reminder ;)

I tried to make the image clickable, but no luck. So, you'll have to click on the link to the right, instead -> CLICK ME!

Haha, yeah, there's so much to see in these cities, you do need a plan! ;)

With the forums down, I forgot to add more votes! Fixing it now! :cheesy:

Ah, nice! It usually pays to book plane and train travels earlier, you might get a discount if you're lucky! ;-D

I hope you managed to book the places to stay too!

I'm happy my post helped you! Public transport abroad can often be confusing, with its own rules.

One thing to remember about train tickets here is that they need to be validated at the machines at the station before boarding the train. I've seen some tourists in the past that didn't know that: they got on the train and showed the train conductor a non-stamped ticket. If you don't stamp it, they can fine you, although if they're smart they'll just explain the mistake to you and that's it.

If you buy the ticket online, instead, you get emailed a pdf document with a QR code that gets scanned on board, so no need to stamp or print anything. It would be quite hard to stamp a phone anyway! ;)
