A fine game, a nice game in its own right but the nostalgia is so strong! :-)
What an absolute absorbing game for the ages. This could very well be the game of the decade! I know there is some competition out there, but the pure animation, thoughtfulness in design, graphics, and one of the most exciting games in AGS history should truly bear fruit! (which that delightful creature may enjoy).
For the creator, this taxed all of my brain, but without hints, I slowly meandered through to it's conclusion. Absolute thanks for the entertainment.
There's so much about this game that I could praise, from the innovative mix of art and gameplay styles to the great story and puzzle design. But I think the highest compliment I can give it is that it managed to create a true world that I will miss being in and look forward to returning to one day - something I feel about all the greats of this genre.
On paper, the whole idea for this game is (forgive me) one that I should hate - a meta-y, fan-remake-type mess. But somehow it works so well. (When I first saw the screenshots, I thought it looked amateurish, because I was thrown by the mishmash of resolutions, etc. If that's what anyone else is thinking, don't. It is anything but.)
Get this game now.
I was like "oh wow" when i saw the latest installment. I LOVE this series. And the latest installment is just even way better than the previous ones. A true work of love and art. All hail adventure games!!
First off, there is an awesome lot of detail and really gorgeous scenes in the game. Interesting and original puzzles (I loved the mindswap puzzles and the Momo puzzle). The cut-scenes were really drop-dead gorgeous. Must have been a great lot of work, but oh, how beautiful. There were some good unexpected twists (2D / 3D)
Also, everything blended into a really awesome, immersive game. No loose ends, no jarring incongruities.
(there was only one thing i wondered at: Dylan has the same stripes as the critters! connection? Something for the next game?)
All in all, thank you for delivering - again - an awesome piece of work!
Akril's "Adventure" series is a fantastic love letter to the genre, and the third installment is no exception. While it's recommended you play the first two games to familiarize yourself with the characters (and avoid spoilers), this third game shines because of all the original content and innovation that Akril brings to the table.
Most of the game is set in the "Mega-Game", an open-world filled with different art styles, where you'll wander from a 16-color desert at night into a lovingly painted daylight forest. Further into the game, you'll explore an area that I didn't even believe was possible in an AGS game, but blew my mind when I first saw it. The wildlife in particular was a major highlight for me, as a lot of animation and attention to detail went into bringing forest animals, sea life, and many other creatures to life.
The game's puzzles are challenging, but fair. I got frustrated on a couple, but when I eventually figured out the solutions, they seemed obvious in retrospect. Even the game's moon logic somehow fits within the game's internal logic, making for a few very memorable puzzle moments.
Cinematically, the game's cutscenes look wonderful. Akril puts a lot of work into her animation and can compose an exciting story sequence. During the game's dramatic finale, I had flashbacks of "Broken Sword" and "Curse of Monkey Island" as all the quick closeups and camera angles washed over me. It was a very exciting moment to see unfold, and a great payoff for a great game.
So I highly recommend this title! Check out the other two first, then jump in and enjoy the charm, innovation and wit of "Adventure: Welcome to the Genre"!
