Good evening friends, how are you?
I'm looking for a game graphic artist on a voluntary basis for my new realistic game. I already have a programmer and everything, I just need someone to do the graphics
I also have discord if anyone wants to talk to me there I'm always available: yoron#2972

Hi,

a short feedback, since misunderstandings keep arising regarding the work on graphics.

Graphics on a game are the most elaborate. Characters have to be created, concept art has to be done, research has to be done, and then the actual graphics have to be done in a consistent style.

You also want a realistic style, which needs to be worked out in detail and requires accurate academic knowledge of the art.

I would take the following steps when looking for a graphic artist:

1. Set a time until you want to wait to find an unpaid graphic artist.

2. Customize your ad so that people have a clear idea of your project.
- what graphic style should it have (3D, pixel art, etc.)
- What is the scope of the project?
- what exactly are you looking for (an all-rounder, someone for character design, backgrounds or animations)

3. Scale your project. Pre-program your game and use the simplest placeholder graphics. Then create a list of the things that require graphics and make an effort estimate.

4, Think about how much money you want to spend to reach your goal and offer a price per background, animation etc.

I can tell you from my own experience that it is difficult to find good graphic artists.

Personally, after a long search, I decided to do the graphics myself, because I've always been good at drawing. I have specialized in pixel art, especially in the area of animation. Since then i worked on some own and project of others. The most famous is an animation of Indy taking something from behind for Seven Cities of Gold in 2016. But I also take professional art classes to learn academic/realistic drawing and painting from scratch. This is extremely time-consuming and many have no idea how much work it is.

Best Regards,

I hate to be "that guy" but you need to show more off if you want any kind of help.

You say you've already got a programmer and everything. What does "everything" entail? Do you literally have the entire game designed and programmed with placeholder graphics waiting to be replaced? If so, why haven't you shown any of it?

Or are you saying that you've got a programmer and an idea's guy along with a rough premise of what you're wanting? Because if that's the case, you'll be lucky to find an artist.

Making art is hard. If it was easy, you'd be doing it yourself. (But hey, you can still do it for yourself. And if you do, it's free.)
I learnt how to make my own art, because of the countless times I saw idea guys begging for an artist, and I didn't want to be one of those people.

TLDR:
If you want any hope of recruiting an artist, you're going to have to try way harder than simply asking for one with a single paragraph of text and nothing more.
Because let's face it, everyone, including artists, want to work on THEIR ideas.

I'm looking for a graphic designer for a realistic game with quality graphics like in this picture:

And here is a YouTube video illustrating the concept for my new game:

Can you do this kind of volunteering?

The game looks like, except for the navigation battle, uses mostly still images and GUIs.

If you can come up with some way to maintain cohesion across images, through keeping color in some range or maybe using some effect or something, the thing that appears to be more important is the UI.

So you could perhaps pay for someone to just design the ui, which you would use in the AGS GUIs. Then, later, leverage something like stable diffusion AI (perhaps one of the available on itch) for even if not the final product, advance quite a lot in the game development.

Ah, the good old High Seas Trader from Impressions. Loved the game when it first came out at our local PC shop but didn't buy it due to the bugs in the first version. I love games like this.

But back to your requirements. Should it be ships that are painted or own ships? Incidentally, realistically imaginative is the most difficult discipline in art. You can hire a naval ship painter. That's where you have the most success. However, I think that there is little under 3000 EUR per picture. ;) These are all oil paintings.

There is a game that is similar to the High Seas Trader game?

LimpingFish

I'm going to move this thread to a more suitable location. It doesn't meet the requirements of the recruitment board.
Steam: LimpingFish
PSN: LFishRoller
XB: TheActualLimpingFish

There are loads of games like High Seas Trader.
Uncharted Waters, Pirates!, Sea Dogs, Port Royale.
(By the way, I absolutely adore Uncharted Waters 2: New Horizons. It's a shame it's the last game in the franchise to be officially translated.)

I strongly recommend you make a proof of concept with some placeholder art, and then come back asking for an artist again. If you do that, chances are you'll intrigue someone with the concept, and you'll all be able to enjoy making the game. A prototype can go a very long way in pitching your game.  ;)
But as it is now though, there's almost no chance of you finding an artist who's willing to help.

I've worked on enough projects with other people to know that the majority of them don't get past the planning phase. So if you can show that you can indeed make this, then there's a good chance that someone who's a fan of those types of games, will help you in making it.
